I learned to look at hands, which I'd never looked at before...and I learned also that shadows are not black but coloured

the kitsune

This last summer while I was running along the roadside a fox came out of the tall grass and made tracks across my shadow.

In native american lore, foxes are symbolic of arrows, "a symbolic message for us to set a determined, and powerfully focused mindset in order to hit the target of our desires".

Foxes for the Japanese, "kitsune", are akin to European faeries having magical abilities including the ability to take human form (naturally, I immediately think of skin walkers here). They are considered spiritual messengers, guardians, friends, lovers.

Little kitsune and I have had several encounters since that summer day. Swiftly the fox dashes across the road, an unexpected surprise. Did you see it? I think each apparition will be my last.

You may say, "Now come on K, we all know the fox is there because of the chickens"....true, there are chickens, but as a symbol of knowledge, enlightenment, and infinite wisdom, I still consider it magical each time the kitsune emerges from the grass to play with my shadow and run by my side, and I listen for its message.

10m run

went over to "the gym" to spin for a few minutes and then unwind with a swim and was disappointed by a white piece of paper taped to the door: "closed for business" - :( I can't talk about this right now....
